The Recipe for GR ‘Best Practices’

Recipe for Best Practices

Government Relations – How Do You Know if You Need It?

GR work is hard to explain: For many, you won’t take an interest in it until there’s a nagging concern or an unrealized opportunity in your dealings with government, and someone wise that you trust tells you that should talk to a GR specialist.

But how do you know your needs if you don’t even know what ‘it’ (GR) is?

Working effectively in GR requires so many specialized skills. It’s having a deep understanding of so many local issues, and knowing how elected officials, the government, and the bureaucracy works, but also how they don’t. Most businesses or organizations aren’t large enough to have a full-time team member focusing on it all day, because that means they’d be continually forming and constantly nurturing relationships with folks on ‘both sides of the aisle’, and ensuring they know who to call for what when government related problems or issues do bubble-up.

“The best way to describe what we do in GR is that it’s a bit like holding onto a lot of different coloured, constantly moving and shifting threads” explains REMEDY President and lead consultant John Morris. “We understand, it does sound a bit like sorcery”, he laughs.  “Staying calm and strategic while a large and extremely complicated piece of fabric – our government –  is being continually woven and picked apart, and then re-woven is our stock in trade.”

So ok, now you think you understand it, and that you need GR help. How do you find a trustworthy advisor to engage?

“In this scenario, we are the people who consistently know which are the right threads to pull at the precisely right time,” says Morris.

The team at REMEDY has a unique, inherent ability to  translate your specific problems into terms that government decision-makers understand, how to get in front of them, how to help them see your problem as their problem, how to formulate ‘a win’ for all stakeholders involved, and then how to make those solutions actually happen.

If you think you might have a GR problem – or opportunity – call or email REMEDY in confidence. We can triage your situation quickly, and if the need and fit is right we can get started virtually right away.

After all, we’re the REMEDY for that.
